The Outdoor Type
The Outdoor Type is an Australian indie folk-pop project led by Melbourne singer/songwriter Zack Buchanan. Inspired by classic Australian pop acts like the Church and the Go-Betweens and taking his band name from a song by '90s act Smudge, Buchanan recorded his self-titled debut EP in 2015 and made a decent showing on Triple J and AMRAP radio in his home country. Later that year he followed up with the hooky folk-pop single "On My Mind," which became a modest hit and landed him a deal with Canadian powerhouse Nettwerk Records. Returning in 2016 with a new single, "Rumination," Buchanan began transitioning the Outdoor Type into more of a live band-oriented project both in the studio and on frequent tours of Australia.
