Naomi Punk

With a style that defines the sound of the Pacific Northwest as much as it reconfigures it, Washington State trio Naomi Punk began as the solo project of Travis Coster and grew to include Neil Gregerson and Nicolas Luempert. Via self-released CD-Rs and cassettes, the Olympia- and Seattle-based band developed a sound inspired by grunge and its forebears -- at any given moment, shades of the Wipers, Beat Happening, and Nirvana can be heard in their heavy yet free-flowing music -- and released their self-titled official debut album in 2009. Over the next couple of years, the band toured consistently and spent 14 months in the studio. The first taste of Naomi Punk's new music arrived late in 2011 with the Spell single, a precursor to their second album, The Feeling, which was released by Couple Skate in April 2012. Captured Tracks re-released the album in November, adding the B-side of the Eon of Pain single that the band issued in October as a bonus track. The trio returned in 2014 with the slightly more polished Television Man, which was released by Captured Tracks that August. The band spent the bulk of the next two years recording 2017's anarchic double album Yellow, which featured music by Naomi Punk and their Scorpions alter ego, and also incorporated found sounds and library music.
