Maya B's confident, offbeat fusion of dance-oriented pop, hip-hop, and contemporary R&B emerged in 2017 with "Kiss on My Neck," a single that won praise from DJ Khaled. She made her major-label debut with the self-produced "Selenas" in 2019. A Los Angeles-based singer/rapper, songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist, Maya B began writing music at age six and started producing her own recordings in her late teens when sessions with others kept falling through. She produced 2017's "Kiss on My Neck," her self-released debut, following it later the same year with "River." Along with a shout-out from DJ Khaled, word of her attention-grabbing, genre-bending style spread as she was featured on select Internet radio and streaming playlists, and she signed with Capitol in 2018 before releasing the self-produced "Selenas." Issued in early 2019, the single "Dollar to a Diamond" was co-produced with Soulshock.
