Fusing a variety of genres into her self-proclaimed "Urban Jazz," Manchester vocalist IAMDDB found her footing in music with underground hit "Shade" before coming third in the BBC's Sound of 2018 awards. IAMDDB (born Diana De Brito) was born in Lisbon, Portugal and moved to Manchester, U.K. at a young age. Blending a plethora of urban genres into her self-proclaimed "Urban Jazz," De Brito's vocals combine harmony, ad libs, and rapping to create a voice collage over her shimmering, hazy instrumentals. Despite writing from the age of seven, she didn't release her debut single until 2016's "Leaned Out," which she posted online after quitting university earlier that day. Her debut project, Waeveybby, Vol. 1 was released in 2016 and was followed the next year by sophomore effort Vibe, Vol. 2. De Brito found her first hit with 2017's infectious "Shade," which saw viral success in the U.K. and racked up tens of millions of views on video streaming platforms. Subsequent mixtapes Hoodrich, Vol. 3 (2017), Flightmode, Vol. 4 (2018) and Swervvvvv.5 (2019) continued to build buzz for the Manchester vocalist, resulting in third place at the BBC's Sound of 2018.
