Gateway Drugs
Los Angeles-based quartet Gateway Drugs merged dreamy shoegaze, raw garage rock, and psychedelia for their dark, druggy sound. The band worked with Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes as the producer of their visceral 2020 sophomore album, PSA.
Gateway Drugs was formed in early 2012 by siblings Liv, Noa, and Gab Niles, all children of the Knack's Prescott Niles. The three siblings all contributing lead vocals and different instrumentation on different songs and the band was rounded out by vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Blues Williams. They released tracks and demos online for several years while playing out to larger and larger club audiences in the L.A. area. The group's debut full-length, Magick Spells, was issued in 2015, and Gateway Drugs were slated to open for shoegaze legends Swervedriver on a U.S. tour directly following the release. Williams left the band and was replaced by longtime friend of the Nileses James Sanderson on bass and guitar. The group played live frequently and worked towards new recordings with producer Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes. Gateway Drugs opted for a chaotic, live-in-the-studio sound on their sophomore album, PSA, which was released in May of 2020.
