Francisco, el Hombre

Taking their name from a popular figure in Colombian folklore, Francisco, el Hombre are an eclectic music collective from Campinas, São Paulo. Formed in 2013 by Mexican-born brothers Sebastián and Mateo Piracés-Ugarte, the band describes their music as “pachanga folk,” a melting pot of Latin American musical traditions that range from MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) to Mexican music and everything in between. After spending some time busking in Europe, the Piracés-Ugarte brothers relocated to Brazil in the mid-2000s with the sole objective of quitting their day-to-day responsibilities and focus on their music. In 2015, all of their instruments, documents, and personal belongings were stolen after a show in Mendoza, Argentina. Upon their return to Brazil, which was possible through the help of the local community and a series of public performances, Francisco, el Hombre released their debut EP La Pachanga! in April of that year. Preceded by the track “Calor da Rua,” their studio debut SOLTASBRUXA arrived in 2016 and featured production by Zé Nigro plus additional cameos by Liniker and Brazilian indie rock band Apanhador Só. Included in the album was also the single “Triste, Louca ou Má,” a powerful feminist anthem that racked up millions of streams across platforms and broke into the Brazilian Top 200 a few years later. RASGACABEZA, their sophomore effort, arrived in 2019.
