F. Gregory Holland

Though jazz guitarist F. Gregory Holland works primarily as a studio musician, he is also a prolific composer, producer, and arranger. Beginning as a soloist with 2013's Crazy Life, he takes on jazz, blues, funk, and rock influences with a smooth, uplifting approach. His tenth full-length, For Every Moment, had arrived by 2016. Holland put out another quick succession of improvisational albums in 2020, culminating with Cooling Twilight. Born in Chicago in 1958, Holland was raised in the Midwest on a wide variety of music, including his parents' jazz collection, which included the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Wes Montgomery. He went on to study music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and made his debut as a studio musician in 1980. He later took additional courses at the Berklee College of Music and, among various professional memberships and positions, served on the Board of Trustees with the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music from 1996 to 2000. Holland eventually started his own independent record label and licensing and publishing entity. His solo recording debut, Crazy Life, and the follow-up, Chasing Summer, were both self-issued in 2013. Several albums credited to Gregory Holland followed in 2014, including Shades of Imagination, String of Changes, and that November's Everything Will Be Okay. Going forward as F. Gregory Holland, he returned with Speak of the Words, Enchantment, and Heart of Love in 2015. The 2016 release For Every Moment appeared in December before Holland took a brief break from issuing solo material. When he re-emerged in 2020, it was with another string of releases just months apart, beginning with March 2020's Goodness, Mercy and Truth. Together as One and Make It Last followed in May and August, and he closed out the year with Cooling Twilight.
