Beastie Respond

As Beastie Respond, Copehangen native Tobias Pedersen produces a hard-to-define mixture of drum'n'bass, electro-funk, footwork, trap, and several other styles. Reflecting the bombardment of information available in the present era as well as a sense of nostalgia for past visions of the future, Pedersen's music can be as tense as a John Carpenter soundtrack or as giddy and neon as a Rustie record. Pedersen played drums as a youth and joined a reggae/ska band, but gradually felt the urge to combine disparate genres, and started making solo electronic music as Beastie Respond. After developing his sound for a few years, he signed with Danish label Teal Records in 2010. His debut single, "Syncopy," arrived in 2011, backed with a remix by techno producer Blawan. "Be Quiet" and "Dreams and Reality" followed in 2012, as Pedersen's work caught the attention of experimental drum'n'bass producers such as dBridge and Loxy, who released Beastie Respond tracks on their respective labels (Exit Recordings and CX Digital). Leaning closer to synthwave than drum'n'bass, Beastie Respond's debut full-length Fictitious Nostalgia arrived on Teal in 2013. Other than a few stray remixes and compilation appearances, Pedersen was largely quiet until the Back to the Future EP appeared on Circle Vision in 2016. A year later, the ecstatic full-length Information City was released by Foul-Up.
