Antimatter

Antimatter is a project formed by longtime Anathema bassist Duncan Patterson, who quit the doom/death pioneers in the midst of their transition toward post-Floyd ambient rock territory. Paired up with guitarist Michael Moss, he chose to explore uncharted waters in the form of ethereal ambient alternative rock laced with electronics. To assist them in this task, the duo drafted two guest vocalists in Michelle Richfield and Hayley Windsor to appear on their full-length 2001 debut, Saviour, which also featured a cameo from Patterson's former Anathema associate Danny Cavanagh. A second album, titled Lights Out, followed a year later, and a third, the more acoustic Planetary Confinement, in 2005 (all three were released by Prophecy Productions in Germany and The End Records in the United States), after which Patterson left the group in order to concentrate on his Íon solo project. Moss continued Antimatter, assembling musicians who contributed to the group's previous album to record Leaving Eden, their fourth album, which moved away from the ambient electronic sound of their earlier work and featured more electric guitars. Prophecy Productions released the album in June of 2007, and the group spent the rest of the year touring Europe. Moss reunited with Patterson in 2008 for a tour featuring material from both artists' back catalogs. Alternative Matter, a compilation of Antimatter rarities, alternate mixes, and demos, appeared on Prophecy Productions in 2010. Fifth proper album Fear of a Unique Identity arrived in 2012, blending sonic elements from all of the group's previous works. Antimatter commenced recording The Judas Table, their sixth album, in April of 2015. A live album and DVD set called Live Between the Earth and Clouds was issued in early 2017.
