After they disbanded Fury in the Slaughterhouse in 2008, the Wingenfelder brothers took a break from music: vocalist Kai Wingenfelder hosted a radio show and worked as a media producer, while guitarist Thorsten focused on photography. In 2010, they formed the duo wingenfelder:Wingenfelder, and even though the lyrics on their 2011 debut album, Besser zu Zweit, are in German, the earthy rock songs are still reminiscent of their former band. The record debuted at number 35 in the German album charts.
