About Playlist

Herbie Hancock was only 22 when he began his solo career by signing with Blue Note and publishing "Takin' Off" in 1962. This was enough to tempt a certain Miles Davis who ended up hiring him the following year in his mythical second quintet alongside Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams. Up until 1969, the Chicago-born pianist recorded a total of seven albums for the Blue House, featuring sublime combinations of hard bop, post-bop and modal jazz. These were major albums for his own discography as well as for the history of Blue Note.
