For his first release on the ECM label, Tigran Hamasyan engages himself with Luys i Luso in an extraordinary exploration of Armenian religious music. He has a selection of hymns and sharakans (Armenian liturgical chants) arranged for voice and piano. This music, created between the fifth and nineteenth century, has found here a new and dramatic expression, thanks to the power, imagination, and improvisation of a man who has been shaking the jazzosphere for several years now. This interpretation relies on the commitment of the Yerevan State Chamber Choir, the principal Armenian choir. As part of this European tour, Qobuz accompanied the young pianist (and his musicians) to their first performance in Lille.
