SAHTYRE

Through a psychedelic haze, raver-turned-rapper Sahtyre delivers his dark rhymes with raspy grit and a drugged-out sensibility, like a blend of Danny Brown, Lil Wayne, and Flatbush Zombies. Debuting in the 2000s, he developed his underground following with efforts such as 2013's LSD (Prelude) and its sequel, 2015's LSD (Saga), as well as 2018's The Gorgeous Darkness and CRYNOWDIELATER. Born Cassidy Howell, the Los Angeles-based musician is part of the underground rap movement DeathLA, which hosts parties throughout the city. As a solo artist, he issued one of his first mixtapes in 2009 on the Swim Team label. High Saht featured the track "Natural High" with guests Dumbfoundead, Nocando, and Open Mike Eagle, as well as production by DJ Zo. He teamed with Zo the following year on Exclamation Point!, returning in 2012 with The Buddha. He issued the first installment in his head-spinning "love, sex, drugs" series, LSD (Prelude), in 2013. The equally hedonistic and depraved sequel, LSD (Saga), landed in 2015. Retaining his shadowy vibe and hardcore lyrics, he made a personal turn on 2017's Cassidy Howell. Featuring the single "Grammy," the self-titled album dialed up the introspection, reflecting on addiction, depression, success, and spirituality. He followed in 2018 with a pair of short albums: The Gorgeous Darkness and CRYNOWDIELATER.
