Paula Temple

England's Paula Temple is a highly respected DJ and producer of hard, uncompromising techno, and a technological innovator. Active as a DJ since the 1990s, Temple co-developed the MXF8, a MIDI controller designed for live performances, during the early 2000s. After a nearly decade-long break from touring and making music, she returned in 2013, releasing EPs on labels like R&S and 50 Weapons, leading up to her full-length debut, 2019's Edge of Everything. Temple began to DJ during the '90s, and received significant early exposure thanks to British dance magazine Muzik. She won a contest which granted her a day of studio lessons from Dave Angel, and later was featured in the magazine's Bedroom Bedlam mix competition, which led to further DJ gigs. She made her recording debut in 2002 with an EP titled The Speck of the Future, released by Chris McCormack's Materials label. The EP received attention from techno's elite; Jeff Mills included the track "Contact" on his 2004 mix CD Exhibitionist. Temple utilized the MXF8 controller during her hybrid live/DJ performances, and toured steadily until 2005. She then moved to Leeds and became a teacher, setting aside touring and releasing music for several years. Eventually she relocated to Berlin and started getting back into the club scene. When she finally began making music again, R&S immediately signed her, and Colonized appeared in 2013, followed by Deathvox in 2014. She performed at numerous festivals, and remixed tracks by artists such as the Knife, Fink, and the Prodigy. She also launched the Noise Manifesto label, which released the Decon/Recon series of collaborative 12" EPs, as well as her long-awaited debut album, Edge of Everything (2019).
