Katie Henry

Katie Henry blends blues and jazz in unpredictable ways, alternating between jazzy organ-fueled vamps and stripped-down guitar workouts. Her 2018 debut album, High Road, leaned toward jazz, earning her accolades from several blues and Americana organizations, while its 2022 successor, On My Way, emphasized the guitar. A third studio set, Get Goin', arrived in 2024. A native of Vernon, New Jersey, Henry grew up in a musical household, learning to play piano at an early age and writing songs throughout her childhood. While attending Manhattan College, she played music on the side, eventually deciding to go professional. After playing open mikes and singing with a Bronx-based blues band, Henry struck out on her own, building her chops by playing clubs in New York. Eventually, she struck up a collaboration with bassist Antar Goodwin, who soon served as her co-writer and musical director. In 2018, Henry self-released her debut, High Road, a record that earned her national recognition, including a nomination from both IBMA and Blues Blast. She followed up on that breakthrough with On My Way, an album co-written with Goodwin and recorded with producer/guitarist Ben Rice. It was released by German blues imprint Ruf Records in early 2022. She also took part in the label's annual Blues Caravan tour alongside Belgian guitarist Ghalia Volt and Chicago's Will Jacobs. The live album Blues Caravan 2022 was released that September. Henry's next outing, the 2023 single "The House Is Rockin'" was also a collaboration, this time with Ally Venable and Bernard Allison. Allison also produced Henry's third studio album, Get Goin', released in early 2024.
