Drugs, alcohol, multiple excesses, ulcers and pneumonia got the better of Charlie Parker, who was only 34 years old on this Saturday, March 12, 1955... One could write every day, several times a day even, how great the man nicknamed Bird was. Great for genius. And beyond the richness of the harmonization and the complexity of the rhythmic framework, the saxophonist delivered a phrasing with demented lyricism. In the acrobatics, his virtuosity was revolutionary. In ballads, his sensuality was like no other. Obviously, jazz would never be the same again. Neither would the music...
