MT Hadley - Janet : extremely beautiful and sad song, I was listening to this for at least 6 months before I started working with MT Hadley, we did the track ‘safety net’ together.
Joan Armatrading - shouting stage: when MT Hadley & I were arranging our writing session, he sent me this song and said we should try and write something like this. I didn’t get it then but I think I get it now.
I started listening to a lot more Joan Armatrading after he suggested shouting stage, she’s an artist who I hadn’t really listened too much but I felt like I knew her songs, do you ever get that?
Joan Armatrading- Weakness in me: nice slow sad addictive ballad.
Joan Armatrading - Me myself, I: anthem when you are going solo, resonated with me during the writing on Heavy Weight Champion Of The Year.
Wilma Arche -Like A Hunger : Crazy tune I was listening to this track for at least a year before I started working with Will, and not once did I get bored of it! . We did ‘Paralysed’ , ‘The Unordained’ and the Interludes together on the album.
Blood Orange- Charcoal baby: Love this whole album, the main artwork is also a big inspiration visually for the ‘Heavy Weight Champion Of The Year’ video. Theres something about the free looniness of the guitar in this track that I was attempting to bring into “The Unordained “
Fabiana Palladino - Mystery: Ollie Barton-wood & I were obsessed with the synth and the smoothness of this song when we were writing ‘Tears’.
Millonare - Kelis ft Andre 3000: Dave Okumu & I were playing each other our favourite songs of all times, and we both agreed on this iconic tune, was based “Heat Rises’ on this in a big way…
Mount Kimbie- Four Years And One Day: Would love to make instrumentals like this.
Tirzah - Guilty: Devotion is an album I listened to a lot when I was making the album, I play this song on repeat just to hear the guitar part, perfect distorted tone.
