About Playlist

Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür has moved through several distinct phases in his artistic life. He first achieved recognition in his homeland as leader of the progressive rock band In Spe. By the late 1980s he was active as a composer, utilising a “polystylistic metalanguage” to combine and contrast techniques from Gregorian chant to serialism, minimalism and beyond. Latterly, Tüür uses what he calls a “vectorial method” of composition: “On a grass roots level, the entire composition is encapsulated in a source code – a gene, which, as it mutates and grows, connects the dots in the fabric of the whole work.”
