Osvaldo Montes

Argentine composer Osvaldo Montes was born in Buenos Aires in 1952. During the 1970s, he relocated to Paris and formed the folkloric group Los Calcachis, which toured Europe with Mercedes Sosa. After settling down in Montréal in the 1980s, he began writing original music for Canadian TV shows such as Legends Indiennes du Canada, Le Defi Mondial, Ingenierie Cent Ans, Points Chauds, and Services Secrets. The 1990s found him working closely with the Argentine film industry, scoring critically acclaimed movies such as El Lado Oscuro del Corazón, Cenizas del Paraíso, Tango Feroz, and Pequeños Milagros. Additionally, he won two Martín Fierro Awards for his work on the TV dramas Nueve Lunas and De Poeta y de Loco. In the early aughts, Osvaldo Montes moved to Bogotá, Colombia, where he contributed to the soundtrack of several TV series, including Sin Amparo, Colombianos, Una Cuestión de Fe, and Bolívar Soy Yo. Sung by José Pablo Gaitán, his song "Y Estoy Aquí" was the opening theme for the 2007 soap opera Pura Sangre. Subsequently, he returned to the silver screen with an original score for the Tita Merello biopic Yo Soy Así, Tita de Buenos Aires in 2018.
