Mister Modo & Ugly Mac Beer

With their lo-fi aesthetic and crackling blips of analog, the French DJ/producer pair Mister Modo & Ugly Mac Beer concoct dark, murky soundscapes that reflect their hip-hop heroes MF Doom, RZA, and DJ Muggs. Mister Modo's expertise leans more toward crafting beats while Ugly Mac Beer serves as the main scratch technician. Mac Beer had established his own record label, Diess Productions, in 1999, which was mainly focused on DJ-related vinyl and beat-juggling material, before teaming up with Modo for the first time on the 2005 7" "Weed with Roots in Hell." The duo gathered similarly minded hip-hop artists, like Mike Ladd, MF Grimm, and the Monsta Island Czars, for their full-length effort MO Dougly Weird Stories, released on Diess in 2007.
