L.E.J

French trio L.E.J surged to popularity in 2015 on the viral success of a mash-up of that summer’s pop hits, and later transitioned into recording their own material. Comprised of singers Lucie Lebrun and Elisa Paris, with Juliette Saumagne on cello and backing vocals, the three formed L.E.J (named for their first initials) in 2013 in the Paris suburb Saint-Denis, and met with modest regional success in their early years.

But it was the mash-up “Summer 2015” that launched L.E.J to global notoriety. The track blended 11 contemporary hits, including songs from Nicki Minaj, Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, and Bruno Mars, as well as European artists Bigflo et Oli, Stromae, and Maitre Gims. The song and its accompanying video racked up over 100 million streams across various platforms. The trio quickly capitalized on the attention by releasing the album En attendant l'album… later that year, which featured an original song, “La dalle”, which became a standout track for the group, along with covers of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child, and their original viral hit. The album peaked at Number Four in France, and went double platinum in their home country.

L.E.J toured for much of 2016 (a “Summer 2016” medley was popular, but didn’t duplicate the success of its predecessor), and won the French equivalent of a Best New Artist Grammy at the 2017 Victoires de la Musique ceremony. Two albums of original material, Poupées russes and Pas peur, arrived in 2018 and 2020.
