Jazz - Verschenen op 1 september 2003 | ECM
Recorded live at the end of 2001 in the Birdland in New York, Extended Play is the umpteenth proof of the level displayed by the quintet formed at the time by Dave Holland with saxophonist Chris Potter, trombonist Robin Eubanks, vibraphonist Steve Nelson and drummer Billy Kilson. The British bass player’s formation had then existed for several years and the complicity between the musicians shines here on compositions drawn from his many albums. The improvisations reach above all a level of virtuosity and sophistication amplified by the years. Nelson’s poetry, Kilson’s ardor and Potter’s virtuosity make of this contemporary jazz party a complete happening. Finally, by involving instruments such as the vibraphone, the trombone and the saxophone, Dave Holland also adds his very own aesthetic, a truly original vision. © MD/Qobuz
