Hoewel niets de White Stripes live kan vervangen, vangt deze collectie het meeste van hun beklonken podium presentatie. De set opent met vier furieuze rockers die laten zien hoeveel oerkracht het duo live heeft. Op “Black Math” en het ademloze “Blue Orchid” klinken ze alsof ze nauwelijks de energie die door hun heen stroomt bij kunnen benen. Veel van de beste momenten op Under Great White Northern Lights zijn echter als ze het tempo vertragen. Vooral de versie van “The Union Forever” pakt verbazingwekkend goed uit met extra wanhopige vocalen van Jack omgeven door een aanzwelgend, horrorfilm-achtig orgel. Misschien wel het beste nummer van de plaat. Er staan ook genoeg favorieten op, waaronder “Jolene,” een bluesy versie van “Fell in Love with a Girl” en een bont en blauw beukende versie van “Seven Nation Army.”
