At the tender age of 86, Willie Nelson is still living life pedal to the fullest, releasing new albums practically every year. On Ride Me Back Home, a most melancholy 69th album according to experts, the father of hippie-country music has come out with eleven new songs, mostly originals, co-written with his old accomplice Buddy Cannon, blending together his usual sense of humour with nostalgic snapshots – and sometimes, realistic snapshots as well when it comes to his age and the flow of time (Come On Time). At the middle point of the album, Willie slipped in a few covers - My Favorite Picture of You, by Guy Clark, the absolute smash it Just The Way You Are by Bily Joel, and It’s Hard to Be Humble by Mac Davis – revisited in good company, with his sons Lukas and Micah Nelson. An enthralling, dusky country record. © Max Dembo/Qobuz

Outlaw Country: Nashville Uprising

In the early 1970’s, a group of musicians from Nashville radically challenged the city’s musical tradition, its codes, its smooth productions and its clichés. With Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and a few other long-haired rebels who were deeply influenced by rock and roll, this new trend defied country music’s conservatism.

The Women of Nashville

It's not easy to elbow your way through the macho Music City scene, the birthplace of country music, when you're a woman. Over the years, some of them have nevertheless managed to shift lines and attitudes, like these ten pioneers and revolutionaries who have put – even stamped – their boots on Nashville's table.

J.J. Cale: Big Brother o' Blues

More than five years after his death, there is still no getting away from the vital wellspring of music that is the works of J.J. Cale. With his unique alloy of blues, folk, country and jazz, the man worshipped by Clapton, who lived for a while in a trailer, is still one of rock's most influential hermits.
