Worthy successors to the legendary OutKast, the Atlanta-based EarthGang duet delivers an incredibly innovative fourth album. Co-produced by Kawan Prather, a member of the Dungeon Family collective, it contains all the characteristic madness associated with EarthGang. It also lays bare their desire to pursue alternative sounds, making them today’s answer to Dilated Peoples or Jurassic 5. There’s definitely something jovial about this album: casual laughter amid the sounds of slot machines and gunfire. This aesthetic, represented by the title track (which knows how to handle a complex entanglement of synthesizers), calls for an army of beatmakers. There are also some great guest vocalists: there’s Future on the tongue-in-cheek track BILLI, the incredible CeeLo Green on Power, and Ari Lennox on the soulful RUN TOO. Everyone has their own part to play, sometimes in unexpected places, but they all have a deep desire to make EarthGang shine.
