The Lion's Daughter

The Lion's Daughter is an inventive Missouri-based trio with one foot in the viscera-stained halls of extreme metal and the other in the spectral electronic horror emissions of John Carpenter and Goblin. Emerging in 2011, the group's early works were rooted in blackened sludge metal. That all changed with the arrival of Future Cult in 2018, which retained the sonic weight of its predecessors while introducing eerie synths and sci-fi/horror atmospherics to the mix, a style the band would further refine on 2021's cinematic Skin Show. Formed in St Louis in 2007 by Rick Giordano (vocals, guitar, synths), Erik Ramsier (drums), and Scott Fogelbach (bass, vocals), the Lion's Daughter released a pair of EPs (The Forgotten Masters, Hemimetabolous) and a split 7" with fellow Missouri metallers Fister in 2011. The sludgy Shame on Us All, the trio's first full-length effort, arrived in 2012, followed in 2013 by Black Sea, a collaboration with Midwestern dark-folk group Indian Blanket. The band inked a deal with Season of Mist ahead of the release of 2016's uncompromising Existence Is Horror. Two years later they returned with the bold and experimental Future Cult, which had more in common with the score of a Dario Argento film than it did the blackened thrum of prior outings. They continued to hone this synth-laden metal approach on 2021's unnerving Skin Show.
