After an album crammed with star features in 2019 (Assume Form, with Travis Scott, Andre 3000, Moses Sumney, Rosalia and Metro Boomin), James Blake hasn’t shown any sign of slowing throughout this strange year that is 2020. He has made a cover of Frank Ocean’s Godspeed, released the two singles You’re Too Precious and Are You Even Real as well as a collaboration with slowthai and Mount Kimbie on Feel Away in September. The hyperactive British artist is back already with this EP consisting of four similarly dreamlike tracks, but each in their own style. I Keep Calling opens the affair with its contrast of lyrical singing, 2-step beats and throbbing bass, while Before is a ballad sang on top of distorted house kicks that quickly spiral into the cosmos. Another success is Do You Ever, a nice unstable bass R&B track, but the auto-tuned Summer of Now is less convincing, a little too alternative for the premium pop artist James Blake has now become. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz

Over the last twenty years, Kanye West has consistently changed the course of rap music and influenced his era’s pop scene like no other. Collaborating with Paul McCartney, Rick Rubin, and Rihanna, he has both revitalized the careers of Jay-Z and Common and provided a platform for Kid Cudi and John Legend. Kanye West remains a major influence on artists such as Childish Gambino, Drake and The Weeknd. Cast yourself back to the career of an endlessly enigmatic artist.
To celebrate his 50-year-long career, Jean-Michel Jarre has released the edifying compilation Planet Jarre, a collection of 41 tracks that highlight the path set by the pioneer of electronic music. It’s a wonderful opportunity to look back over the five decades during which the Frenchman expressed himself as an artist, a mad scientist, a visionary, a sucker for record breaking spectacles, an activist and now the torchbearer for artists struggling for fairer pay online.
The iconic label of the French electro scene, Ed Banger − masterfully led by Pedro Winter − celebrated its 15-year anniversary in 2018 by having their most iconic titles revisited by a classical orchestra. This is the perfect opportunity to look back on the discography of a label that, whilst having been very popular for a long period of time, has undoubtedly mastered the art of going against the current.
