When bluesmen do Christmas they never forget to quietly sneak in the torment, loneliness and melancholy that are characteristic of their genre. The 40 tracks of this compilation from the BD Music collection demonstrate, above all, each artist's ability to make the original standards their own and give them a second life. It's a real paradox: the festive atmosphere plunges into the murky waters of a sad and miserable life. Blues legends such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Blind Willie Johnson, Lightnin' Hopkins, Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Rushing, Lowell Fulson, Jimmy Witherspoon and a few others work wonders with classics as well as original compositions, sometimes sordid and dark, but often tinged with humour.
