Op het tweede album, An End Has a Start, geeft Editors ons wederom een stel broedende, op post-punk geënte nummers. Hoewel moeilijk te ontkennen valt dat het geluid op An End… grotendeels vergelijkbaar is met het eerste album, vooral dankzij de droog geleverde zang van Tom Smith, leunt het toch meer naar het weidse geluid van het tweede Bloc Party album, A Weekend in the City (beide albums hebben in Jacknife Lee dezelfde producer). Met Lee zijn voorkeur voor schone, gitaar gedreven arrangementen, kan Editors zich uitleven met een grootse esthetiek die het meest belichaamt wordt door het openingsnummer, “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”. Dat nummer is in de traditie van shoegazehelden Ride geschreven, met zijn in galm gedrenkte gitaarhozen. Alhoewel Editors de invloeden niet onder stoelen of banken steekt, lukt het de band door Smiths oprechte, afstandelijke houding en hun strakgespannen nummers om hun eigen identiteit te behouden.
