Ed Sheeran is a musical mastermind. His fifth album emanates a sincere desire for comfort. As one of the biggest music stars of the 21st century, the English singer is second to none when it comes to perseverance: “The waves won’t break my boat,” he exclaims in the opening. His lyrics are sources of advice, ways to find strength in tough times. This is exactly the interpretation behind titles such as Life Goes On and Colourblind. Between the lines, it is also what drives the album’s huge single Eyes Closed. What better proof do we need of Ed Sheeran's ability to skilfully combine intimacy and grandiloquence? In production, we find Aaron Dessner, founder of the American group The National, who now specialises in supporting the pop ambitions of Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams.
