Diana Krall se pasó los últimos años explorando alternativas - Glad Rag Doll (2012) estaba dedicado a oscuras canciones de los años 20 y 30, Wallflower (2015) a temas de pop y rock -, pero en Turn Up the Quiet la pianista y cantante canadiense vuelve a confrontarse con el cancionero clásico de jazz norteamericano. Asistida por el productor Tommy LiPuma, Krall alterna tres configuraciones distintas (trío, cuarteto, quinteto) a lo largo del álbum. Si bien el foco siempre está puesto en la destreza instrumental y la voz susurrante de Krall, también hay espacio para el lucimiento de músicos como Stuart Duncan, Marc Ribot o Christian McBride. Lo que más impresiona, sin embargo, es como el disco consigue crear y sostener una atmósfera elegante, romántica y ensoñadora durante toda su escucha.
