The Turn of a Friendly Card fue el segundo disco que alcanzó directamente el número 13 en las listas de ventas, pero resultó tener más éxito que Pyramid o Eve, ya que llegó a conseguir discos de platino y estuvo un año en las listas. Desde el punto de vista musical, el grupo ha madurado, ya que ahora ofrece canciones pop complejas y muy elaboradas, rigurosas con los detalles, mientras que desde el punto de vista temático, este disco parece ser el más ligero que hayan hecho hasta ahora, ya que explora de forma superficial las ramificaciones medievales de un juego de cartas. No obstante, si se profundiza un poco el disco se revela como una reflexión acerca del destino frente a la opción de autodeterminación. Contiene el éxito "Games People Play".
