Jack Ashford and Joe Hunter produced the Metros, a short-lived group believed to be from Detroit. Ashford was Motown's ace percussionist, but found plenty of time to produce the Hesitations, Tony Hester, Debbie Taylor, and many others. "Sweetest One" got sporadic play, but is nothing special -- the falsetto is weak, the track spineless, and the lyrics ineffectual. There are a couple of memorable songs here, though. "I'll Never Forget You" was also recorded by the O'Jays (the two recordings are virtual clones, not surprising considering that Herbie Williams and Ashford arranged both). "Unlucky Sun" is injected with an upbeat arrangement and sounds a lot like "The Mix Mix Song," an early recording by the Chi-Lites. The band also scores with a strong remake of "Blue Velvet" that displays a deep, harmonious vocal blend. Nothing else here is really recommendable.
