Para este cuarteto, el antes y el después tiene un nombre: Reach Out. Antes de este cuarto álbum de Four Tops, el líder Levi Stubbs y sus cómplices Abdul «Duke» Fakir, Renaldo «Obie» Benson y Lawrence Payton eran unos impecables crooners de R&B que mezclaban blues y gospel y que a menudo habían trabajado haciendo los coros para numerosos artistas de Motown, aunque ya tenían una buena tropa de fans. Posteriormente, la formación se convirtió en el grupo de pop soul más popular de 1967 gracias a empezar a trabajar con el equipo de ensueño del sello, Holland-Dozier-Holland...
