Gracias a Ego Death, su tercer álbum, The Internet llegaría en 2015 a públicos más amplios… Sin embargo Purple Naked Ladies, editado en 2011, y Feel Good, dos años más tarde, habían avisado sobre el potencial de la voz soulful de la cantante Syd Tha Kyd y de las sonoridades elegantes y mayormente minimalistas de Matt Martians, miembros ambos del colectivo Odd Future. The Internet tocaba en Ego Death diferentes palos de la soul music, con especial predilección por la nu soul de los 90 pero sin descuidar las pespectivas R&B o incluso hip-hop del género. Tres años más tarde reencontramos aquella orgía de beats sensuales, pero sobre todo lánguidos, en el repertorio de su cuarto trabajo, Hive Mind. El código genético de The Internet ha conducido siempre a la banda por territorios pronunciadamente relajantes, pero esa filosofía chill & laid back pasa a ser aquí un sello de fábrica aún más acentuado. Un sonido y una actitud que tienen como contrapartida que ninguna de estas trece composiciones nos cautive de entrada.
