La historia de Florence + The Machine comenzó hace una década con el single Kiss with a Fist, donde manifestaba ya a las claras su espíritu feminista y carácter combativo. Y con su cuarto álbum, High as Hope, la británica logra acceder al círcuito de los grandes con su pop, desde siempre inclasificable, que picotea en el rock, el soul o, también, los arreglos barrocos. Ella misma se ha puesto a los controles de su última entrega discográfica con la asistencia de Emile Haynie, productor entre otros de Bruno Mars, Eminem o Kid Cudi. ¡Y que con Florence Welch ha vuelto a dar en el blanco! La voz de la vocalista llega a cimas extraordinarias, por ejemplo, en High As Hope.
Aquí se pasa de la melancolía al ensueño sin solución de continuidad y se alterna entre dulces fraseos líricos y los más perturbadores gorgoteos. Un piano toca a rebato en Big God para, después, en No Choir, alcance a cobrar vida una orquesta plagada de sutilezas tímbricas. Con una sección de cuerdas, unos teclados y, sobre todo, dos invitados de excepción, Sampha y Jamie xx de The xx, no puede pedirse mayor intensidad musical a un álbum. Y es que Welch convierte su música en un universo tan salvaje como fantasmagórico donde a uno le encantaría perderse. En diez de las canciones se centra en una única temática, que no es otra sino su relación con el arte y cómo este le ha servido a lo largo de su vida para llenar diversos vacíos. Vacíos causados por su dislexia, su anorexia, su tendencia a las adicciones y sus trastornos sexuales. Gracias a su inusual sensibilidad, Florence ha conseguido plasmar una obra de extraordinaria riqueza y rebosante de emociones, asumiendo a la vez su doble personalidad, a veces vulnerable, a veces dominante. © Anna Coluthe/Qobuz

La historia de Florence + The Machine comenzó hace una década con el single Kiss with a Fist, donde manifestaba ya a las claras su espíritu feminista y carácter combativo. Y con su cuarto álbum, High as Hope, la británica logra acceder al círcuito de los grandes con su pop, desde siempre inclasificable, que picotea en el rock, el soul o, también, los arreglos barrocos. Ella misma se ha puesto a los controles de su última entrega discográfica con la asistencia de Emile Haynie, productor entre otros de Bruno Mars, Eminem o Kid Cudi. ¡Y que con Florence Welch ha vuelto a dar en el blanco! La voz de la vocalista llega a cimas extraordinarias, por ejemplo, en High As Hope.
Aquí se pasa de la melancolía al ensueño sin solución de continuidad y se alterna entre dulces fraseos líricos y los más perturbadores gorgoteos. Un piano toca a rebato en Big God para, después, en No Choir, alcance a cobrar vida una orquesta plagada de sutilezas tímbricas. Con una sección de cuerdas, unos teclados y, sobre todo, dos invitados de excepción, Sampha y Jamie xx de The xx, no puede pedirse mayor intensidad musical a un álbum. Y es que Welch convierte su música en un universo tan salvaje como fantasmagórico donde a uno le encantaría perderse. En diez de las canciones se centra en una única temática, que no es otra sino su relación con el arte y cómo este le ha servido a lo largo de su vida para llenar diversos vacíos. Vacíos causados por su dislexia, su anorexia, su tendencia a las adicciones y sus trastornos sexuales. Gracias a su inusual sensibilidad, Florence ha conseguido plasmar una obra de extraordinaria riqueza y rebosante de emociones, asumiendo a la vez su doble personalidad, a veces vulnerable, a veces dominante. © Anna Coluthe/Qobuz
