Greatest Hits III no es tanto un disco recopilatorio de grandes éxitos al uso como una compilación de rarezas, remezclas y pistas de sus discos. Entre los 17 temas de este álbum solo hay uno que llegó a las listas de éxitos, la versión de "Somebody to Love" que se grabó en el concierto de homenaje a Freddie Mercury y en la que George Michael llevó la voz cantante. Entre otras canciones con cantantes invitados están la intervención de Elton John en "The Show Must Go On", y una interesante remezcla de "Another One Bites de Dust", con rapeos de Wyclef Jean. Aparte de todo esto, hay tres temas en solitario de Mercury y uno de Brian May, más un tercero del último disco de Queen, Made in Heaven.
