Como muchos de los álbumes de Mike Oldfield, Crisis está compuesto por una larga y compleja suite instrumental seguida por un puñado de canciones pop/rock. El tema de veinte minutos que titula la placa es uno de los más acabados ejemplos del talento del compositor británico a la hora de combinar texturas y sonidos, mientras que entre las canciones figuran algunas de las más bellas de su trayectoria, como "Moonlight Shadow" y "Foreign Affair". Uno de los mejores trabajos de toda la carrera de Oldfied, aunque la inclusión tanto de material ambient/prog como pop puede desorientar a quienes prefieran exclusivamente un estilo u el otro.
