Tras unos años en Los Ángeles, Miles Kane ha vuelto a Londres y a las melodías clásicas con Change The Show. Change The Show es una vuelta al northern soul de los años 60, como ya había pasado anteriormente con los lanzamientos The Last Shadow Puppets con su colaborador Alex Turner o con su supergrupo The Jaded Hearts Club (Matt Bellamy de Muse, Graham Coxon de Blur, Nic Cester de Jet, el guitarrista Jamie Davis y el batería Sean Payne de los Zutons) que, desde 2017, han estado reelaborando estándares anticuados del soul y rock’n’roll para conciertos privados o de estudio (You’ve Always Been Here), bajo el foco de una crítica más que dividida. “Intenté hacer cosas un poco más duras, algo de rock, pero a lo que volvía continuamente era a intentar hacer un disco de northerm soul moderno, básicamente.” Kane se introdujo en esto de niño, gracias a unos padres que eran fans de Diana Ross o de los Temptations, y ahora cumple su ansiado deseo: un álbum completo al estilo Motown.
El resultado: baladas de piano de ensueño (Coming Of Age), dúos conmovedores con Corinne Rae Bailey (Nothing’s Ever Gonna Be Good Enough), o la excelente Don’t Let It Get You Down, un paseo cinético y descarado digno de una película de James Bond, presentado por Paul O’Grady alias Lily Savage, todo ello realzado por los coros de Holly Quin-Ankrah.
Y si al principio le costó un poco, fue gracias al impulso de sus vecinos Sunglasses For Jaws, un dúo psicodélico de Bethnal Green, en el sur de Londres, que el álbum (re)nació en el estudio. Allí idearon juntos la frenética Tell Me What You're Feeling, y Miles Kane decidió seguir grabando el resto del disco con ellos. En tres semanas estuvo completo.
