The National se formó en 1999 y está integrado por Matt Berninger y dos parejas de hermanos, los Dessner y los Devendorf. En 2007 este grupo procedente de Ohio editó uno de sus mejores álbumes, el cuarto, titulado Boxer. Once años más tarde han reinterpretado en directo la totalidad de sus temas, en un concierto ofrecido en Bruselas. Inicialmente la idea era publicarlo solo en vinilo y sacarlo durante el Record Store Day, pero ante la creciente demanda The National ha optado por su lanzamiento oficial. Como homenaje a la primera versión, la banda ha mantenido prácticamente el mismo arte gráfico y la portada original, una fotografía de sus miembros tomada durante la boda del productor Peter Katis. El quinteto realiza una actuación perfecta de principio a fin para un público tan devoto como entregado, actuación que se abre con Fake Empire, una pequeña obra de arte de estructura volátil que combina desacompasadamente un teclado pop y la voz de Berninger. Y la alquimia sonora prosigue con Brainy, donde guitarras, bajo y batería se asocian para articular una suerte de milemétrico diálogo musical. Y así hasta el final, que llega con Gospel, si bien todo el concierto raya en la excelencia gracias, en especial, al hipnótico y mágico contraste entre esa voz grave y unas melodías tan ingrávidas como intensas. © Anna Coluthe/Qobuz
