Uffe

Uffe is an Amsterdam-based Danish producer who incorporates dusty-sounding samples and live instrumentation into his off-beat, adventurous dance tracks. He made his full-length debut with 2015's Radio Days, a mixture of jazz-inflected house and smoky downtempo tracks, often featuring the producer's own sensuous vocals. By the time he released his third album, 2021's Words and Endings, his sound had evolved into a gritty fusion of dub, post-punk, disco, and Afrobeat influences. Uffe Christensen began making music when he was ten years old. While growing up in Odense, Christensen resisted going to his piano lessons but loved experimenting with samples and music-making apps on his father's computer. By the time he was in his late teens, Uffe had graduated to using programs like Reason and Logic and was making tracks as often as his graphic design studies would allow him. He moved to Copenhagen at age 18 and became a part of the city's IDM scene as a DJ and booker, and released an album of hip-hop-inspired tracks as Nabo. However, Christensen felt this project didn't truly represent his artistic vision, and after a break from making music, he began recording as Uffe in 2011 while living in Berlin. Inspired by Four Tet's interpretation of house music, Christensen aimed to create club-ready music with an organic feel. Uffe's debut EP, Colors Outside, which included the acclaimed track "When the Sun Rose," arrived in 2012 on the Catz 'n' Dogz imprint Pets Recordings, and was followed later that year by the Straess EP, his Tartelet Records debut. After delivering remixes for Crosstown Rebels and Get Physical, Christensen returned to Pets for 2013's Times All EP. The track "Lemon Nights" appeared on 2014's Tartelet #030 compilation, heralding the release of Uffe's debut album on the label. Radio Days, which featured live recordings by Rewolmer's Jeppe Lauritsen, arrived in March 2015. EPs on Delusions of Grandeur and FaltyDL's Blueberry Records preceded 2016's No!, Uffe's second full-length, which further blended polyrhythmic percussion and jazz-influenced improvisation. Uffe released a few low-key singles in 2017, and contributed a remix to the 2019 compilation Tarantismo: Odyssey of an Italian Ritual. He returned in 2021 with Double Drop, a split EP with Petwo Evans issued by On the Corner Records. The same label released Uffe's third full-length, Words and Endings, an unhinged set of left-field house explorations heavily influenced by dub, free jazz, and post-punk.
