Jazz trumpeter, singer, and composer Peter Asplund was born in Södertälje, Sweden on September 26, 1969. His dynamic yet slightly melancholic style of playing has earned him critical acclaim and has made him one of the most sought-after musicians in his home country. His playing - which incorporates elements of jazz, soul and pop - can be heard on over 200 recordings since he emerged on the scene in 1990. Peter Asplund released Open Mind, his solo debut as a leader, in 1995. Since the release of that debut, he has made several international tours, performing in England, Germany, Australia, Canada, Poland, Mexico, the United States, and many other countries. In 1999, he released his second solo album, Melos. During his time fronting his own ensembles, he was also an integral member of Sweden’s foremost big bands Tolvan Big Band and the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra. In 2007, he made his debut as a vocalist and became one of Sweden’s most popular jazz crooners. He released the album 5:e Växeln, recorded with the Swedish big band GUBB, in 2008. Further albums include The Christmas Feeling (2013), Songs of Our Lives with Vivian Buczek (2016), and All My Septembers (2020). During the course of his career, he has worked with many jazz, soul, and pop artists including Patti Austin, Louie Bellson, Randy Brecker, Bob Brookmeyer, Randy Crawford, Eddie Daniels, Georgie Fame, Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, Mel Lewis, Dave Liebman, Ivan Linz, Joe Lovano, Toots Thielemans, McCoy Tyner, and many others.
