Artiste typique des années quatre-vingt, Pat Benatar incarne alors une bonne partie du rock féminin sur MTV et via des tubes planétaires. « Hit Me with Your Best Shot » (1980), « Love Is a Battlefield » (1983), et « We Belong » (1984) la font reine d'un pop rock aromatisé au hard FM. Dès In the Heat of the Night en 1979 la brune piquante se vêt de platine. Le succès ne se dément pas avec Crimes of Passion (1980) et culmine pour Precious Time (1981), numéro un aux Etats-Unis. Si Get Nervous (1982), Live from Earth (1983), Tropico (1984), Seven the Hard Way (1985), et Wide Awake in Dreamland (1988) sont moins retentissants, ils se parent encore d'or et de platine. Les années quatre-vingt-dix sont fatales à Pat Benatar qui ne retrouve jamais son éclat d'antan.
