Exmortus

A hard-hitting Bay Area thrash metal quartet who incorporate elements of progressive, death, neoclassical, and twin-guitar-based power metal into their already mighty aural attack, Exmortus are the missing link between Testament, Children of Bodom, Manowar, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Since debuting in 2008, the band has gone from independent noisemakers to Prosthetic Records mainstays, delivering high-octane slabs of sonic might like Ride Forth (2016) and Sound of Steel (2018), alongside labelmates Skeletonwitch and Scale the Summit. They issued their high-octane sixth long-player, Necrophony, in 2023 on Nuclear Blast. Co-founded in 2002 by Conan (vocals, guitar) and Mario Moreno (drums) in the Southern California town of Whittier, the band issued a series of demos and EPs before inking a deal with Heavy Artillery Records in 2007. 2008 saw the release of their debut long-player, In Hatred's Flame, followed by their sophomore full-length, Beyond the Fall of Time, in 2011. Two years later, Exmortus inked a deal with Prosthetic Records and headed into the studio with producer Zack Ohren (All Shall Perish, Warbringer, Suffocation) to record their third studio album, Slave to the Sword, which came out in 2014. Heavy touring alongside fellow decibel crushers like Flotsam and Jetsam and Dark Tranquillity followed, and in 2016 Exmortus issued their fourth album, working once again with Ohren, the punishing Ride Forth. Longtime drummer Mario Moreno left the group at the end of 2017, so the band tapped Warbringer's Carlos Cruz to appear on their fifth studio effort, 2018's Sound of Steel. Exmortus explored dark, classically inspired melodic death metal on their sixth full-length effort, Necrophony, which marked their debut for Nuclear Blast.
