Alessandro De Marchi

Italian conductor Alessandro de Marchi is known for his historically informed performances of Baroque operas and oratorios. As a student, he attended the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he studied organ and composition, and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, where he studied harpsichord, basso continuo, and chamber music. In 1989, he began working with René Jacobs as a harpsichordist, and accompanied recitatives in Baroque operas until he began his conducting career. He became the director of the Festival of Early Music in Innsbruck in 2010, and he formed the Academia Montis Regalis, one of Italy's foremost period instrument ensembles. He has recorded for Opus 111, Naïve, Hyperion, and Deutsche Harmonia Mundi.
