Quand Steven Tyler annonce que son premier album solo sera country, mieux vaut prendre des pincettes. Surtout que les premières notes de We’re All Somebody From Somewhere s’inscrivent dans la lignée de la musique de son groupe, Aerosmith. Certes, on entend ça-et-là quelques ponctuations roots mais Tyler n’a pas réellement sorti sa panoplie 100% cowboy. « Je me suis rendu à Nashville au printemps dernier pour commencer à travailler sur ce projet raconte pourtant l’intéressé, écrire des chansons qui dépotent avec les meilleures plumes de Music City (le surnom de Nashville, NDR) et il fallait que je les partage avec le reste du monde… La country music est le nouveau rock’n’roll ! Ça n’est pas juste une histoire de porches, de chiens et de santiags ! C’est bien plus que tout ça. C’est aussi un truc vrai ! » Enregistré avec l’excellent T Bone Burnett mais aussi Dan Huff, Marti Fredriksen et Jaren Johnston, le disque possède un classicisme rock’n’roll assez salvateur, épuré de la testostérone des derniers disques d’Aerosmith, avec ces quelques touches de banjo ici, de fiddle là et de pedal steel un peu plus loin, qui peuvent parfois lui donner ce parfum country qu’évoque le père de Liv Tyler… Côté musiciens, ce dernier s’est bien entouré puisque l’on croise des gens comme Buddy Miller, excellent guitariste d’Emmylou Harris. Notre Jagger américain signe également une belle reprise de Piece Of My Heart chanté par Erma Franklin en 1967 mais popularisé, l’année suivante, par Janis Joplin. Il ose même revisiter Janie’s Got A Gun chanté en 1989 par un groupe nommé Aerosmith… © CM/Qobuz
