Parfaite alchimie sonore entre le producteur attitré du Wu et peut-être le rappeur le plus talentueux à l’époque, enregistrée de nuit principalement dans les studios de RZA.
Et lorsque ce n’est pas ce dernier aux commandes, c’est l’affilié du Clan 4th Disciple qui s’y colle comme sur «SubCrazy».Le talentueux tailleur sonique cisèle les parfaits sons pour un Method Man qui ne s’est jamais montré aussi brillant dans ses textes tout en restant tourmenté dans le timbre, ponctuant chacune de ses rimes de bruits de salivation extrême ou d’autres grognements, rajoutant à l’ambiance surréaliste quant ajoutés aux sons inquiétants parcourant chaque morceau.
Pourtant, c’est probablement l’un des albums les plus fidèles à l’esprit Shaolin Style revendiqué par le groupe. Les thèmes sont profondément ancrés dans l’univers habituel des rappeurs.
La fumette est évoquée jusque dans le titre car Tical est une variété plutôt forte d’herbe. La vie dans les projects n’est pas en reste avec «AllI Need». Ou encore la violence urbaine sur «BringThe Pain» et ses influences ragga via Booster, premier single à sortir en 1994et intégrant vite le Billboard.
Le second, «ReleaseYo’ Delf»,avec le refrain emprunté au tube disco «I Will Survive» de Gloria Gaynor par Blue Rasperry, sera moins bien classé mais l’impact au moins aussi important. «MethVs. Chef» rescapé de l’inondation survenue dans les studios de RZA vient égayer quelque peu l’ensemble. Il fait en effet référence à l’époque des débuts où chacun des huit rappeurs devaient se défier à coup de rimes dévastatrices afin de gagner le droit d’apparaître sur le morceau.
Cet infortuné incident aquatique aurait entraîné la perte d’une quinzaine de morceaux pour chaque membre, et est à l’origine du mixage parfois douteux de l’album,de nombreux titres devant être refaits dans l’urgence.
Des remixesde RZA et Puff Daddy pour «AllI Need»,présence de Mary J. Blige oblige, permettront de prolonger la vie commerciale de l’album et d’obtenir à RZA un Grammy en 1996.
L’album n’en avait pas vraiment besoin, le statut de classique lui ayant déjà été apposé de par son impact sismique dans le paysage rap.
