Indéniablement l’un des meilleurs premiers albums de l’histoire du rock. Le monde a pu découvrir grâce à ce disque le charisme inégalable du poète torturé Jim Morrison. Propulsés en haut des charts par le single Light My Fire, les quatre musiciens de Los Angeles se posent tel un ovni sur le paysage musical des années 60 et parviennent à faire un peu d’ombre aux Beatles. Leur style est unique et immédiatement reconnaissable : une fusion de rock, de blues, de classique et de jazz, le tout sublimé par les textes inspirés de Jim. Le clavier de Ray Manzarek devient également une marque de fabrique du groupe, et le guitariste Robby Krieger qui compose la majorité des chansons ne cessera ensuite d’étonner par son jeu de guitare sans cesse renouvelé. Un impressionnant début pour l’un des groupes les plus mythiques de ces dernières années.
