Le septième album de la chanteuse est étonnant à plus d’un titre. La chanteuse s’y révèle toujours aussi touchante en épanchant ses sentiments sur sillons, alors que l’annonce faite par la maison de disque l’été 2005 laissait entendre qu’il s’agirait d’une compilation provisoirement intitulée Reminisce.
Bien lui en a pris, car sous cette avalanche de nouvelles collaborations, parmi lesquelles on retrouve, will.i.am, Bryan-Michael Cox, 9th Wonder, Davel ‘Bo’ Mckenzie, Cool et Dre, ou encore Dre & Vidal, chacun apporte le meilleur de lui-même afin de coller au style tellement atypique de Mary, mettant en valeur une voix qui n’a probablement jamais été aussi belle.
« Be Without You », dédié à celui qu’elle aime, est un tube absolu, tandis que Mary se met au rap sur « Enough Cryin », remplaçant au pied levé une Foxy Brown victime de problèmes d’audition, et reprenant du coup le texte écrit pour le morceau par Jay-Z. La collaboration avec U2 sur la reprise de leur hymne « One » fonctionne mais se révèle un peu facile au milieu des autres chansons. Blige se voit récompensée d’un succès critique et populaire pratiquement inédit dans le monde musical récent. Mais ce n’est que justice sonore rendue !
