En 2010, The ArchAndroid voit Janelle Monae se transformer en princesse neo-soul de premier plan, accouchant d'une fresque incluant des éléments aussi divers que de la musique de cabaret style Broadway (« Oh, Maker »), de l'easy listening (« Sir Greendown »), du glam rock incendiaire (« Come Alive (The War of Roses) »), du funk (« Locked Inside »), du hip-hop (« Dance or Die », « Tightrope ») et bien évidemment de la soul de la meilleure eau (« Wondaland »).
